Leander,
Texas Playwright's First Play Published
Bobbi A. Chukran, a Leander,
Texas resident, announces publication of her first comedy play,
Annierella and the (Very Awesome) Good Queen Fairy Cowmother.
The play is a (very) loose adaptation of the classic Cinderella
story, with quirky over-the-top characters and an unexpected
twisty ending. The play is set on a farm and on a large ranch
in Texas, and features a young woman with aspirations for becoming
a singing star and a very odd and unusual fairy godmother (who
happens to be a tiara-wearing cow with attitude the size of Texas).
A short version of the
play was performed in Williston, North Dakota in June 2009 and
won First Place in the Youth Education on Stage Summer Shorts
4 competition there. Both the short and the longer 30-minute
version of the plays are being published, in two separate scripts.
As the playwright likes
to say, "This ain't your mama's Cinderella story."
Although Ms. Chukran also
writes plays for adults, ANNIERELLA will appeal to audiences
who want a family-friendly comedy that all ages can enjoy. "It's
not just a children's play, or a play just for children,"
said Ms. Chukran, "but will appeal to all who appreciate
slapstick with a touch of fantasy." The play is appropriate
for all audiences, from school drama clubs to church groups and
theater arts classes.
Ms. Chukran is a native
Texan who grew up in Grapevine then attended the University of
Texas at Austin, graduating in 1981. For many years, she wrote
and published numerous magazine articles, non-fiction books and
one novel, a comedic Texas history mystery, Lone Star State of
Death, which Ms. Chukran is also adapting into a play.
ANNIERELLA is immediately
available for productions. Contact the publisher, Brooklyn Publishers,
in Odessa, Texas,
for details. A FREE PREVIEW of the play can be downloaded from
